Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit. Aristotle If youve just completed or are nearing completion of art college, youre most likely well aware of the competition in the arts jobs market youll undoubtedly be facing. Fortunately, there are a number of ways you can vastly increase your chances of securing a job right out of the gate. Creativity is the hallmark of any artist, so use it to your advantage. Optimising your portfolio, taking advantage of real-world networking opportunities, and utilising the Internet will set you apart from the crowd and maximise your employment probability. Portfolio Optimisation Any artists portfolio is a continually changing representation of their achievements. If you look back at your work from even a couple of years ago, youll no doubt see how youve grown and expanded your skills as an artist. When you submit your portfolio to any employer, it should accomplish the following: Demonstrate your individuality as an artist to show youre not like every other artist applying Showcase only the best of your work Display any special abilities or unique pieces Skim through your portfolio and ask yourself if it meets these points. Dont be afraid to take out pieces which youre unsure of or arent indicative of your most exemplary work it would be better to have a smaller portfolio than one that is brimming with mediocre or ho-hum examples. Take Advantage of Local Networking Opportunities Most areas have a number of outlets for artists to display their work, meet peers and employers, and generally involve themselves in the community. Seek out these opportunities and make your voice heard whenever possible, even if its something as simple as asking a local restaurant if they would care to display your work. Networking really allows you to get creative with how you can spread word of your art. For example, you might contact local performers such as bands or drama groups and offer to design or contribute to their flyers or promotional material for free in exchange for credit. This also conveniently doubles as material for your portfolio. Develop a Strong Presence on the Internet Its little wonder that so many artists have taken to the web in order to receive more recognition and, in many cases, get hired. Convert your portfolio to digital format if it hasnt been already, and create your own website to conveniently showcase your work to potential employers. Furthermore, dont discount the many social networking sites at your disposal. Aside from the most common ones, seek out online communities specifically tailored for artists. Be active with your followers and engage them frequently if youre looking for work, dont be afraid to say so. Word of mouth can travel a long way, especially on the Internet. This is a Guest post. Career Corner Job Interviewing Ten Tips for Success continued - Hallie Crawford
Career Corner Job Interviewing Ten Tips for Success continued Tip #4: Take the pressure off you have options. Relax and chill. If you put too much pressure on this process, and this one interview you will get too stressed out. And you might get so nervous you cant be yourself during the interview. Think of the job interview not as the end all be all, but as an opportunity to cast seeds and check things out. This is a get to know you or feeling out phase, not a contest or do-or-die situation. Try to avoid becoming too attached to any one job. That old saying, Dont put all your eggs in one basket could not be more true than for your career search. Sometimes things take an unexpected twist or turn. You could be 90% sure that youll be on Company Xs payroll next month and suddenly the phone rings with an even better offer. You never know. So take some of the pressure off and trust that everything will work out, whether its this new job or another one. Relax and let it flow! Hallie,Career Development These career tips are excerpted from one of my recent career articles published in the National Contract Management Associations Contract Management magazine. You can read the finding a career you love. Career Corner Job Interviewing Ten Tips for Success continued Tip #6: Write a list of five key points you plan to express in your interview. Youve heard this before prepare for the interview. Research the company, find out who youre interviewing with, and review the typical interview questions people tend to ask. But also think about the key points you want to get across in your interview. Based on the job description and what you know about the position consider what you want them to know about you. Ask yourself: What are the things I want to make sure I get across during my time with them? One way to do this is to make a list of your best qualities and accomplishments what you bring to the table that is relevant to the position. On the day of the interview, two things can potentially happen. One, the interviewer will ask you specific questions where you can simply slant your responses around the points you planned to mention. Or, two, youll end up talking about other things but when the time comes that they ask for your questions or thoughts, you can use this opportunity to make your points. Write them down and have them in front of you if youd like. Theres nothing wrong with that. Go for it and good luck, Hallie, I can help you with your job search! (keyword, related links) These career tips are excerpted from one of my recent career articles published in the National Contract Management Associations Contract Management magazine. finding a career you love Career Corner Job Interviewing Ten Tips for Success continued Tip #5: If they ask about your weaknesses, answer honestly. Each person excels in some areas more than they do in others. If you are honest, you stand a better chance of being placed in the best possible career for you. So when the question about weaknesses comes up, tell the truth. Just be sure to spin it in a solution-oriented way that tells the interviewer you know how to overcome and manage such challenges. For example, if youre not detail-oriented, you could say so but also add that you always give yourself extra time on projects that involve lots of detail. Or, you could say that you make a great big picture partner and strategist when paired with someone for whom little details are their strong suit. You dont want to get into a job thats not a fit for you, so stretching the truth isnt going to help you or the employer. So be honest with yourself and with them. Youll be more likely to find a job that fits that way. Hallie,I can help you find the right job! These career tips are excerpted from one of my recent career articles published in the National Contract Management Associations Contract Management magazine. finding a career you love. Career Corner Job Interviewing Ten Tips for Success continued Tip #3: Be prepared, know the organization. Youve probably heard this one a lot. Id hear it, and Ill be honest sometimes I still did not do my homework before the interview! At the time I just thought I was being lazy but I now I know what was happening. I wasnt really excited about the jobs in the 1st place. For you, this should be a red flag. Here something to consider if youre not jazzed about learning about the company or organization, should you really be applying there? If youre avoiding doing your homework it could be because youre not really passionate about the job. Think about this, and do some soul searching about the ideal career for you before you jump into that position and realize youve made a mistake. Now if youre sure this is it, this is a position youre interested in: Youâll notice that many companies not only have a specific âpersonality,â but theyâre mighty proud of the little perks and quirks that make them unique. Do they have their own brand of soda, like Microsoft? Do they offer flex time for working parents? Find out if theyâre noteworthy in the news. Visit their Web site and do your online research. Were they part of a recent merger or did they just win a government contract? There is no better way to show your sincere interest than actually being interested. You might learn something cool about this organization that tells you, âGo for it!â Or, you could uncover some hidden dirt that makes you think twice before working there. Good luck! Interview Tip Avoid A God-like Complex (Thank You Alec Baldwin) - Work It Daily By J.T. O'Donnell When it comes to job search, the good news is people reading Careerealism.com are starting to land interviews. (Thanks to all of you who have been e-mailing us your success stories - keep them coming!) The bad news is, a lot of job seekers are unskilled on the right way to display their confidence and humility in an interview. Granted, the two terms sound like polar opposites, but they're not. You need to be: A) Confident in your self knowledge - a.k.a. articulate what your strengths are and how you use them to succeed on-the-job. AND, B) Humble by recognizing that you are not God, and thus, are capable of explaining how you couldn't have succeeded without the help on others. So readers, if you are prepping for a job interview. I suggest the following: 1) Download the BEST Interview Prep Tool Ever and make sure you are prepared to answer and ask all the righ questions. 2) Watch the video above of Alec Baldwin from the movie Malice to remind you how NOT to answer questions regarding your skills and abilities. How is GDPR Affecting Email Marketing
How is GDPR Affecting schmelzglas absatzwirtschaftCredit Wright Studio/Shutterstock The European Unions General Data Protection Requirement, or GDPR, has been a hot topic since its enforcement date took effect in May 2018. Companies have faced multiple dilemmas Is their geschftsleben one that needs to comply with the GDPR privacy law? If so, what is the best way to comply? And how does a business comply without losing valuable customers?GDPR-compliant businesses of all sizes likely have had much work to do to ensure a smooth transition, and this has impacted how many companies do business in Europe. Theres no avoiding the effects this requirement has on marketing efforts especially email marketing and mailing lists. All marketing activities are likely to be affected by the GDPR in one way or aleidher that much is obvious, said Oksana Chyketa, marketing specialist at Albacross. That said, we see GDPR having an exceptionally large impact when it comes to e mail marketing.Email marketing is a common advertising tactic that has been easily implemented in the past. But after GDPR, its another area of business that requires careful consideration.Editors Note Considering an email marketing service for your business? If youre looking for information to help you choose the one thats right for you, use the questionnaire below to get quotes and information from a variety of vendors for freeFor instance, companies need to ensure their contacts gave them consent before continuing to send emails to them. This calls for a stricter subscription process, which should involve double opt-ins and easy opt-outs, and exclude involuntary or required opt-ins.ersatzdarsteller opt-ins confirm that users are interested in receiving emails, weeding out any fraudulent or accidental requests (e.g., failure to uncheck an automatically checked subscription box.) If a consumer provides their email for a subscription, they will have to go into their email and agree to it for a second time. This requirement acts as a safety net for any business sending marketing-related emails. Anyone subscribing to your emails should be able to do so freely and not feel bribed to do so for a particular product or service. They should also be able to unsubscribe from your email list at any time, and with no repercussions. When someone gives consent, make a notenzeichen of it so you have the information recorded and readily accessible should there be any issues later.Organize a full information audit and review the existing data you have, paying particular attention to where this data came from and who youre sharing it with, said Chyketa. If youve been marketing to an email list that you obtained using methods that are noncompliant with GDPR, you should no longer reach out to individuals on this list, unless theyve double-opted into your communications.Marketing efforts should be transparent to your consumers. Outline exactly what data youre recording and what you plan to do with it. Any time there is an update, alert your contacts and offer a way to unsubscribe if wanted. Searching for an email marketing software for your business? Here are our best picks.Additionally, not only are companies forced to neglect contacts, but many consumers are choosing to opt-out when faced with a privacy policy update. Its better to send messages tailored to your customers than a generic advertisement to a broad audience anyway. So, if you want to recruit and retain contacts, you need to know how to engage them.I think the one thing were likely to see is that brands may see an increase in unsubscribes and/or requests for deletion, said Jennifer Horner, senior relationship marketing strategist at DEG Digital. I feel that when presented with a privacy policy update customers either ignore the email or, if theyre not highly engaged with the brand, take that message as an opportunity to unsubscribe from the emails.Horner added that consumers will now expect per sonalized communication, and companies should leverage their data to customize messages and advertisements. That way, contacts they do have will be satisfied enough to stay subscribed. Sammi Caramela Sammi Caramela has always loved words. Find A Job Somewhere That Sets The Bar For Women In Tech
Find A Job Somewhere That Sets The Bar For Women In Tech No company is perfect. But some employers are doing so many incredible things to make their employees as happy as possible. If you have an inkling that you dont work at one of these companies, youre probably in the majority. But youre also in luck. Why? Because weve heard from lots of different women at one particular company thatisdoing a lot of things right and you may be able to find a job there.Salesforce described by one employee as a wonderful company that I couldnt recommend more highly ishiring a ton right now. Salesforce Is Hiring Browse Opportunities. If the idea that Salesforce is a wonderful company sounds familiar, thats because you may recall that in 2015, the companys CEO, Marc Benioff, conducted a compensation audit to determine whether there was a gender pay gap among Salesforce employees. He publicly announced the initiative, putting his companys reputation on the line moreover, when he discovered that there wa s indeed a pay gap, he put a plan in place (with $3 million in funding) to fix it.Salesforces commitment to equality didnt stop there. This past spring, the company announced that it spent aleidher $3 million to help close the gender pay gap. In anEqual Pay Assessment updatethat was published in April, Cindy Robbins, Salesforces president and chief people officer, wrote, At Salesforce, equality is a core value, and were taking action to advance equality across four key areas equal pay, equal opportunity, equal education and equal rights. This year, we increased the scope of our equal pay assessment, evaluating salaries, as well as bonuses globally. We also looked at differences in pay for bedrngnis only gender, but also race and ethnicity in the U.S.Robbins added that Eleven percent of employees received adjustments following our second assessment, and Salesforce spent approximately $3 million to address any unexplained differences in pay. All salary changes for employees were made on April 1, 2017.Salesforces unwavering devotion to gender equality, is, unsurprisingly, a hit with employees. One woman who reviewed her work experience on Fairygodboss reported that her CEO is very forward-thinking and promotes diversity.Another explained how Salesforces commitment to equal pay has played a large role in why she feels so good about her job This is a company that has platzset the standard for gender equality and equal pay for employees. We were the first company, in the world, to do a comprehensive survey of over 25k employees to ensure that women and men were paid fairly. That is the icing on the multi-layered cake.Yet another employee agreed in reviewing Salesforce on Fairygodboss, she wroteSalesforce is a great place for women. Our CEO reviews wages to ensure that there is no gender bias behind pay packets same money for the same job.She added that Flexibility is fabulous as long as my job gets done there is plenty of room to be flexible with hours and work loc ation. We have great benefits and culture every week there is something different in the office to bring staff together.Other employees are also pretty big fans of Salesforces encouragement of flexible and remote work (how could you not be?). The companys leaders understand that when employees andtheir families are happy and healthy, they can bring their best selves to work every day. One woman writes on Fairygodboss that she loves being able to work remotely and that she feels very trusted. And building this kind of trust and results-oriented approach as opposed to one that values facetime, above all else is such a key in keeping employees energized and productive.Women at the company also report that while the tech industry is not necessarily known for being the most inclusive or supportive industry for women, Salesforce sets the bar for women working in tech, and it just keeps getting better. One employee explains that theres excellent maternity leave managers are helpful to pa rents schedules. As a woman, tell them what you want and most likely they will make it happen. Dont be afraid to just ask for it. Having a boss whos approachable when it comes to these kinds of requests can be such a game-changer (so if you dont, you should probably take a look atSalesforces job openings ASAP).The bottom line is that when you go to work, you should be treated like the bosslady you are and your company should be taking some very clear steps to ensure that your voice, along with everyone elses, is heard and valued. If youre not getting those vibes, its time to consider working at a place that wants women to succeed where opportunity is everywhere. You deserve it--Fairygodboss is pround to lebensgefhrte with Salesforce. Find a job there today

Women At Thales
Women At Thales Thales was an active participant at the Womens Forum Global Meeting in Paris. The Groups participation took place within the framework of its proactive Diversity policy which will help foster innovation and creativity through a greater variety of approaches, perspectives and ideas. Are you interested in learning mora about Thales and their commitment to diversity and inclusion?Click here to see all available opportunities at Thales and dont forget to press Follow to receive custom job matches, event invitations and mora One of the biggest challenges in almost all industries today is achieving gender parity. Gender diversity provides huge benefits in the workplace. pWhile some industries have made significant advancements in gender diversity, some industries lag further behind... and the construction industry is well-known for being in the latter category. If someone says, construction workers, youll likely picture a group of men in yellow hard hats analyzing an architects plans or laying bricks on top of a scaffold. And men at work signs only help to reinforce this image.pThis stereotype is rooted in reality. When was the last time you actually spotted a woman on a construction site? Or hired a female plumber or carpenter? Your answer is most likely never. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statisticsreports that only 3.4% of the total of 8.3 million construction employees are women.pBut the construction industry has a lot mora to offer than steel-toed boots and hard hats, and it needs women to help advance the industry in this era of rapid change. Here are 5 reasons why women joining the workforce or looking to make a pivot should consider a career in construction.h21. Fuel Innovation/h2pNot only is diversity the socially and morally right thing to do, but it is also actually an excellent business strategy. pResearch presented in the Harvard Business Reviewshows that diverse teams develop more innovative id eas. This is further supported by a study conducted by Gallupon the performance of gender-diverse teams versus single-gender teams, which found that the difference in backgrounds and perspectives led to better business performance and problem-solving. h22. Capitalize on Demand/h2pThe construction industry is currently experiencing a labor shortage. The industry itself is booming and projected to be one of the fastest-growing industries, with total spending projected to exceed $1.45 trillion in 2023/a. However, most construction companies are unable to meet the rising demand. pAccording to the Associated General Contractors of America/a, more than 80% of contractors are experiencing difficulties filling hourly craft positions that represent the bulk of the construction workforce.pAnd demand isnt limited to individual contributor roles. Given the industry boom, there are a number of open stable and high-paying roles (any project managers out there?) waiting for the right candidateh23. Leadership Opportunities/h2pAccording to the Bureau of Labor Statistics/a, women compose only 7.7% of the total 1 million managerial positions in construction.br/pBut given the highly collaborative nature of construction work, more women in leadership roles would help drive innovation and enhance productivity.Furthermore, as a woman in construction in a leadership position, youd have the unique opportunity to drive change for the industry and make it a more attractive option for other women.h24. High-Income Potential/h2pSalaries for many skilled positions in construction are on the rise, making a construction career a prime choice for women looking for a high-paying job,pThe 2018 Construction Craft Salary Surveyconducted by the National Center for Construction Education and Research revealed that salaries for many skilled craft areas are increasing. Project managers and project supervisors topped the list at $92,523 and $88,355, respectively. The next set of highest-paying jobs inc lude those of combo welders ($71,067), instrumentation technicians ($70,080), pipe welders ($69,222), power line workers ($68,262) and industrial electricians ($67,269). Of the 32 categories of workers in the survey, 19 positions earned an average salary of $60,000 or higher.h25. Sense of accomplishment/h2p The construction industry can give employees a unique sense of achievement. Yes, the job is stressful and the work can be demanding, but nothing beats the feeling of being able to build something from the ground up. pHow many professionals in other industries can point at a school, a hospital, or a skyscraper and say I helped build that?pThe construction industry has a long way to go in combating gender bias and supporting women in the workforce, but given the current demand for workers, theres no better time to pick up a sledgehammer (figurative or literal) and smash the gender stereotypes plaguing the construction industry.
